A Special Request
When Kou reached out to me from several states away with a unique vision for his wedding day, I was both honored and excited. He wanted a custom, floor-length wedding cape with a detachable, embroidered shoulder piece—a one-of-a-kind garment featuring artwork he had created himself.
Even though we were separated by miles, we embarked on a creative journey together, relying on email, photos, and even good old-fashioned snail mail to make it happen.

From Measurements to Muslin
To ensure the perfect fit, Kou provided precise measurements, and I began by creating a muslin mock-up—a simple test version of the cape. This step allowed us to confirm the length, drape, and shoulder placement before moving on to the final fabric.
Once Kou approved the muslin fit, I offered recommendations for fabrics that would deliver the elegant movement he envisioned for a stunning wedding-day look.
Bringing the Artwork to Life
One of the most exciting parts of this project was transforming Kou’s artwork into embroidery. Using mySewNet embroidery software, I digitized his images and carefully stitched them onto the detachable shoulder piece. Every detail mattered. From the placement of the designs to the choice of thread colors, each decision added to the story this cape would tell on his wedding day.

The Final Reveal
When the custom cape was complete, it was truly remarkable. Floor-length, elegant, and adorned with Kou’s own designs, it was everything he had envisioned—and more.
On the wedding day, Kou looked absolutely stunning. I was overjoyed to see his dream come to life and honored to have played a part in such a memorable celebration.
