CUSTOM SEWING PREP

Taking measurements

Accurate measurements are key to making a perfect fit.

Here are some guidelines for taking great measurements.

Grab a friend to help you take your measurements.

It is important to wear the undergarments you plan to wear with  the outfit.  Shapewear, push-up bras, strapless bras, etc. will give you different shape profiles.

Bust Measurement - Take at the fullest part of the bust. You should be able inhale with the tape pulled taut.

Waist Measurement - Take at the natural waist.  It is usually at the smallest point.  But, if unsure, tie a piece of elastic and see where it goes naturally.  The tape should be snug, not tight.

Hip Measurement - This is about 7 inches below the waist and is the fullest part.

Back Waist Measurement - This is from the nape (bone at the bottom of the neck) to the waistline.

Shoulder Measurement - This is from the side of the neck to the shoulder joint (where you want the sleeve to start.)

Length - Measure from the waist to the lowest part of the hem (floor, ankle, mid-calf, knees, etc.)

Now, we are ready to get started!
